SPITZENLEISTUNG - PEAK PERFORMANCE
In the summer of 2022, the flight I took from Milan to New York was an unforgettable experience. What I was seeing the moment the plane crossed from Italy into France was Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Western Europe. Although I wasn’t aware of the mountain’s name at the time, I thought it was the most beautiful sight I’ve ever seen, from its pure white blanket of eternal snow to its long, flowing glaciers. When I returned home days later, I wished I could return to my pretend reality in the Alps.
Spitzenleistung - Peak Performance is a love letter to one of the most breathtaking mountain ranges in the world through the medium of photography. The name is a pun on the German language “-spitze” suffix used in names for several mountains in the Alps.
Home to renowned mountains such as the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc, the natural beauty and down to earth aesthetics of the Alps are the reasons I dream of leaving my current reality for the sublime. It is a concept of escapism in the form of fanciful landscapes— this is combined with my illustrations and journal entries dedicated to the mountain range.
