ANAÏS B. CONDE
“SEPARATE FROM BODY”
Separate From Body (2024) is a body of work that explores my relationship with fragmented identity and existential grief. Existing in a place that housed domestic violence, sexual, and severe psychological abuse in childhood resulted in the development of my dissociative & mood disorders. The mind separated from the body to protect the child. As a result I have been living between the reality of what was, while moving through the reality of what is. Being pulled back and forth between time, I often find myself in places that don't exist in the external world. These visual works are created with newer and older images which will allow the past and present to meet in one place external from me. These are the experiences and emotions that my mind will not allow me to talk about, but my body carries with it everyday.
